Different between true and proto alkaloids 

True alkaloids-

True alkaloids are toxic in nature, contain heterocyclic nitrogen which is derived from amino acid and always basic in nature. True alkaloids are normally present in plant as salt of organic acid. 

Example -Atropine,nicotine,morphine etc

Proto alkaloids-

Proto alkaloids or amino alkaloids are simply amines in which the nitrogen is not in a heterocyclic ring.

Example -Ephedrine,colchine
